The Expat Youth Scholarship (EYS) contest is designed exclusively for students aged 13 to 21 experiencing life in foreign countries amidst unfamiliar cultures.  The contest is a testament to Clements' ongoing commitment to the international expatriate community.  $10,000.00 (USD) in scholarship funds will be awarded to the winners of this year's contest, so join today at and spread the word!

There is no experience like living in a foreign country to introduce you to new cultures and open your eyes to the greater world around you. By immersing yourself fully in a new culture, you can gain invaluable insight into the challenges facing people from all walks of life. You may even come to develop your own ideas on how to contribute to the global community.

For this year's Scholarship, we are asking expat students to to reflect and show through the use of video how you will use your experience living abroad to make the world a better place.

Deadline for submissions is July 30th  (11:59pm U.S. EST). Winners will be determined by judges from the international education community.

Who is Eligible? 

Students ages 13-21 of any nationality who have resided in a foreign country for at least six consecutive months. To qualify for the Ages 17-21 age category, you must be aged 17-21 by July 30, 2016, the deadline for entries.

How to Enter

1. Go to and visit the contest application for your age group for more information. 

2. Create a 1:00-1:30 minute video showing how you will use your experience living abroad to make the world a better place.

3. Submit the video at at the Contest application. Under "Description" be sure to put your full name and age as of July 30, 2016.

The deadline for entries is July 30th at 11:59pm EST. Following that a team of judges will select 10 finalists for each age category and the winners will be announced September 1. 

A few things to keep in mind are

-The video should be dynamic and demonstrate through interesting footage and visuals your passion about your goal and what positive impact it will have on the world.

-The video should be between 1:00 -1:30 minutes.

-Last but not least… have fun!

Judging Criteria

Entries will be judged on the following criteria:

  1. Originality and style of the video.
  2. The scholarship entrant's ability to articulate their objective impact on the world, the means through which they plan to pursue this goal, and how it will benefit society.
  3. Production quality and ability to successfully combine facts with inspirational content.

Expat Youth Scholarship Submit Your Entry

Clements Worldwide's Expat Youth Scholarship gives expat youth an opportunity to share their experiences and compete for scholarships worth up to $3,000. Clements is awarding a total of $10,000 in scholarships to six students in the following categories:

Ages 13-16

  • First Place- $3,000
  • Second Place- $1,500
  • Third Place- $500

Ages 17-21

  • First Place- $3,000
  • Second Place- $1,500
  • Third Place- $500

1. Does it matter if the time I spent living outside my home country wasn't consecutive (i.e. in a row)?
Yes, you’re only eligible to apply if you have spent at least 6 consecutive months (in a row) living outside your home country.

 2. I will not have spent at least six consecutive months abroad until after the scholarship deadline. Am I eligible to apply?
No, you must have lived abroad for at least two consecutive years as of the date you submit your entry.

3. What is considered my home country?
What is considered my home country? Your home country is the country of your passport. If you have more than one passport, your home country is the country where you obtained your first passport.

4. Can I apply if I’m now back in my home country after living abroad?

5. Do I have to be a U.S. Citizen to apply?
No, full-time students of any nationality are encouraged to apply.

6. In order to apply for your scholarship, I must be 13-21 years old. What if I don't fall within the age range by the deadline?
As long as you’re 13-21 years old at the time you submit your entry, you’re still eligible to apply.

7. Is the scholarship designated for a specific use or institution?
No, the scholarship will be issued to you to use however you choose.

By submitting your video you certify that the work is original and not borrowed from another source, solely created by you, the submitter.
