Bahrain Risk Assessment Country Guide

Doing Business in Bahrain

Located off the coast of Saudi Arabia in the Persian Gulf, Bahrain is an island nation with more than 1.3 million residents. An alluring destination for tourists and businesses, the country is home to numerous luxury destinations and corporate business centers.

However, Bahrain does present many risks to expats and members of international organizations living within its borders. According to the UK Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO), the political climate is unstable throughout the nation due to a number of factors.

When living in Bahrain, you should seek comprehensive international insurance to help manage the costs and potential risks of living outside of your home country.

The risk of terrorism is relatively high, with threats from many different terrorist organizations in the Gulf region. In 2012, terrorists killed 2 people and injured others several others using home-made devices. Explosions occurred in public places such as the movie theater, shopping mall and the highway.

On July 1, 2016, a bomb was detonated south of Bahrain's capital Manama. The bomb killed a woman while 3 children sustained minor injuries. While no group claimed responsibility, Bahraini authorities attributed the act to “terrorists.”

In order to mitigate the risks of tumultuous activities, Clements provides War and Terrorism coverage to help manage life abroad. A policy offers the right coverage against the risks of civil unrest, war, riots, looting and acts of terrorism.
