Worldwide Car Insurance

Many countries require a minimum of third-party liability car insurance to cover damage you may cause to others, but only carrying this required minimum leaves your own vehicle uninsured and you financially liable for repairs or theft.

Worldwide Car Insurance is a separate global policy that sits on top of your local third-party liability insurance to cover physical damage and theft to your own vehicle.

Customize your policy with our borderless coverage, which includes:

  • Physical Damage coverage and
  • Excess Liability protection

Policy documents are in English and claims are handled in-house with a commitment to quick and efficient processing.

What to Look for When Choosing Your International Automobile Insurance?

Do you live abroad or plan to move overseas?

This video explains everything you need to know and how our comprehensive international car insurance policies can provide you with flexible options.

Global Car Insurance Coverage & Benefits

Please note, Worldwide Car Insurance is an added layer of protection and is not a substitute for third-party liability insurance (many countries’ legal minimum). Clements provides local third-party liability insurance in select countries. Otherwise, you will need to obtain third-party liability insurance through local carriers.

Physical Damage & Reimbursement

Our worldwide car insurance policy protects against collision, theft and damage, even political violence. It includes the following:

01

Worldwide Coverage

We specialize in car insurance for expats. That’s why we offer worldwide physical damage coverage, protecting your vehicle from collision, glass breakage, theft, and fire. Your vehicle is covered across borders. Please note, some exclusions apply.

02

Transit Coverage

All risks from departure to arrival available for government employees and contractors only.

03

Political Violence Coverage

If your car is damaged from riots, strikes, terrorism and other perils, you are covered through Clements’s exclusive Political Violence insurance extension, included with your policy.

04

Protection Against Uninsured Motorists

You won’t be subject to costs (mechanical or cosmetic) caused to your vehicle by uninsured, underinsured, or even hit and run drivers.

05

Home Country Rental Car Insurance Expense Reimbursement

We cover the cost of rental car insurance for $12/day up to 21 days when renting a car in the US, Canada or your home country.

06

Covers Towing and Labor Reimbursement

Up to $100 USD per disablement, up to $300 USD per policy term.

07

Optional Coverage for Duty Expenses

Saves you money when you need to import a replacement vehicle or parts to repair your damaged car.

08

Accident Forgiveness

Your rate stays the same even after your first accident.

Excess Liability Coverage

Ever wonder if the minimum required local third party liability coverage will be enough? Avoid being underinsured and financially liable for accidents with our excess liability protection. You will be covered for liability resulting from bodily injury and/or property damage to others at a much higher level of protection and avoiding any gap in coverage.

What Does Excess Liability Coverage Do?

If your third-party liability insurance is not enough to cover costs resulting from bodily injury and/or property damage to others, this coverage provides protection for those gaps, keeping you fully protected.

Excess Liability is designed to cover insurance gaps and is stacked on top of third-party liability coverage. It extends the protection of your third-party liability insurance to protect you from costs associated with bodily injury and property damage.

Drivers typically receive coverage up to USD 500,000 to 1,000,000, helping to shield you from financial liability. This supplemental insurance also covers property damage, whereas the local policy does not.

Please note that Excess Liability Coverage is not available in the U.S., Canada, the driver’s home country, or sanctioned countries.

Is My U.S. Driver’s License Valid Overseas?

The U.S. State Department advises American drivers abroad to “check with the embassy of the country you plan to visit or live in to find specific driver’s license requirements,” as many countries do not accept a U.S. driver’s license. However, most countries will accept an International Driving Permit (IDP), a translation of your U.S. driver’s license. Organizations like AAA can assist you with getting an IDP.
