The Most Welcoming Country for U.S. Expats...

...may be closer than you think. A recent survey reveals U.S. expatriates don't have to travel far to find the friendliest, most welcoming country - just cross the border to Canada.

The survey asked over 2,000 expatriates to rate their successes on making local friends, learning the language, purchasing property, and joining local community groups. Runners-up include Germany and Australia.

The article also quotes our friend Robin Pascoe, the Expat Expert - "I'm not surprised that Germany is a popular choice whether you are going for a short-term cultural experience or a long-term job assignment. Germany has fantastic international schools for the kids of expats." Clements International is a proud sponsor of Robin's site, www.expatexpert.com.

If your New Year's resolution is to fall in love in 2009...

If you are a global nomad, it can be difficult to find your soulmate in a new country. It's probably not even a priority when you arrive - you typically have to learn the local language first before you can start speaking the language of love. However, if you are looking for a special someone, a recent study on expatriate life names the country where you are most likely to find that person.

Which country do you think it is?

Well, the first country that comes to mind is France - scenic views from the Eiffel Tower, romantic strolls a long the Seine...

Sorry cupid, it's not France.

How about Italy - home of la dolce vita, amazing cuisine...and didn't Italians invent the language of love?!

Guess again. It's Germany! Germany also ranks second to Belgium as the country where the largest number of expatriates have children after relocating there.
