Clements VPs Turned Grill Masters

On Sunday, September 20, 2009, Vice Presidents Tom Lentz and Dan Tuman served as grill masters at the Foreign Service Youth Foundation’s (FSYF) Annual Welcome Back Picnic. The event gathered recently returned U.S. Foreign Service families for a fun afternoon in Vienna, Virginia.

“The picnic was a great opportunity for Foreign Service families to get together and share their experiences,” said Lentz. “Clements working the grills allowed the FYSF members more quality time to enjoy the picnic.”

Clements is a proud supporter of FSYF and its continuing contribution to the expat community.

Clements in the Community: Best Buddies

The Clements team volunteered at the WVSA School for Arts in Learning (SAIL) by serving as math and reading buddies to students from March through May 2009. SAIL is a public charter school (K-6) located in WashingtonD.C. that teaches academics through the arts to children with  variety of learning differences.

Account Executive Janness Pooran-Thomas tutored Imani, bright, energetic fifth-grader, on basic math problems once a week. Along with nine other Clements employees, she donated 30 minutes of her time each week, which the company matched with a monetary contribution to the school.

“It was a very rewarding experience for me,” said Janness. “I’m proud that Clements is involved in the local community and offered its employees this special volunteer opportunity. I looked forward to spending time with my buddy every week and felt like I was doing my part to give back.”

New RPCV Community Forms at State Department

Joining the Peace Corps is a great way to make a difference in the world, and some Returned Peace Corps Volunteers choose to continue providing service for a lifetime by accepting positions at the U.S. Department of State. Are you one of these admirable people? Then keep reading...

Tyler Sparks and Erik Schnotala of the U.S. Embassy in San Jose are both RPCVs, and could see a clear connection between their lives in the Peace Corps and their work at the State Department. So in order to communicate and network with fellow RPCVs, they formed RPCVs @ State.

Tyler says the main goals of this community are:
1) to publish information and news about development issues and other issues of interest to the returned Peace Corps community within the State Department.
2) to generate and stimulate discussions about development issues and other issues of interest to the returned Peace Corps community within the State Department.
3) to develop and strengthen the network of returned Peace Corps volunteers within the State Department.

Additionally, he hopes to encourage more RPCVs to join the Foreign Service, promote Peace Corps as an excellent service opportunity, and support PCV projects through the Peace Corps Partnership program.

If you are a current State Department employee, you can find out more about the community here.
Brilliant, right? Why hasn't anyone thought of this before?!
