The Big Decision Day

I couldn’t sleep last night. The day we’ve all been waiting for since two years ago when candidates began declaring their intent to run for the U.S. Presidency is finally here. So at 6:15 this morning, I put on a warm coat and mittens, and walked to my polling station, where a line had already formed for the 7:00 opening. There was a palpable feeling of excitment. No matter who is elected, history will be made today.

Now, as we wait in anticipation for tonight’s results, I can’t help but wonder what effect our overseas voters will have on the election. Last spring, Clements International sponsored Overseas Americans Week, where representatives from several expatriate organizations visited Capitol Hill to voice their concerns on the voting process, and the steps that should be implemented to keep from disenfranchising Americans living abroad.

What did you think of the absentee voting process this year? Did you find it easy or difficult? Share your experiences in our comments.

Countdown to November 4

With less than 8 weeks until Election Day in the U.S., it's important to start filling out your paperwork now if you plan to vote. Many states require you to be a registered voter at least one month before the election.

If you're the type of person who likes to put things off until last minute, Overseas Vote Foundation has got you covered. OVF is a non-partisan organization, which allows you to register online, review each candidate's platform, and more. This year, OVF has also added a feature where you can print off your absentee ballot from the website, meaning no more waiting for your local election office to mail it to you. Moveover, OVF has partnered with FedEx, so that you may mail your ballot for free or at a reduced cost, and track and confirm delivery.

Fast and accountable -- now that's something both parties can believe in!
