"Let's do something that no one else does."
This simple phrase established the cornerstone of Clements International, and continues to be the hallmark of the company today.
It all began in 1947. Robert Clements, a lawyer, visited a client at the U.S. State Department who managed the claims office. Frustrated, the client pointed to the insurmountable pile of claims in his office and remarked to Clements that he needed help. At the time, no company provided international insurance products, and Clements immediately realized the potential.
Clements and his wife, M. Juanita Guess, created Clements & Company and began offering international life and financial services. The Washington, DC-based firm quickly leveraged its proximity to US State Department and Foreign Service headquarters, and those personnel looked to Clements to protect their belongings while living and working abroad.
In the late 1970s, under Guess' direction, the company began addressing the needs of expatriate clients outside the Foreign Service. By 1981, when the founders' son, Jon, joined the firm, Clements had become a medium-sized agency.
Jon Clements streamlined operations and improved efficiencies, and in 1989 became president. Under his leadership, Clements dramatically expanded its product offering, so that it now provides a full array of insurance coverage for individuals, businesses and organizations, and international schools.
Today, Clements International, under the direction of its CEO and president, Jon Clements, is the undisputed leader in expatriate insurance, with over 60 employees, a network of 60 domestic and international brokers, and thousands of clients in more than 170 countries.
Why trust your international insurance needs to anyone else?
